OMAHA, Nebraska -- Nebraska health care officials said Friday they're ready for smallpox vaccinations, but they're concerned the public is not ready.
KETV's Margaret Bumman said most of the people she talked to say they need more information before deciding whether or not to get a smallpox vaccination.President George W. Bush announced plans Friday to start limited smallpox vaccinations. Right now, only health care workers, military members and emergency crews will get the shots.
Douglas County health workers will probably be vaccinated in January or February. The shots are voluntary, so no health worker will have to get the shots unless they want them.Douglas County health officials said they're planning to host several community forms in January to talk about the smallpox vaccine. They're also talking about setting up a hotline for people to get their questions answered.
