Road Worker Injured After I-80 Hit-And-Run

OMAHA, Neb. -- A road worker was struck by a vehicle just before 9 p.m. Tuesday while working in a construction zone, police said.The worker was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.Police told KETV Newswatch 7 that a search for the driver of the car that hit the worker has been underway in a neighborhood just north of the interstate.
Meanwhile, westbound Interstate 80 is closed just east of the 42nd Street exit.Other roads affected include John F. Kennedy Drive northbound to I-80. Officers said that drivers coming from the north should exit at First Street or continue north to Interstate 480.For travelers on I-480 southbound, officers said to take the highway all the way south to JFK Drive or exit at Martha Street.I-80 westbound is being forced north onto I-480 or south onto JFK Drive, but people can exit onto 13th Street. Officers also said that the 24th Street on-ramp is closed.The closures are expected to continue until about 2 a.m. Wednesday.Omaha police said drivers should avoid that area if possible.Watch for further updates on KETV Newswatch 7
