OMAHA, Neb. -- People looking to drop a few pounds have a new product that claims to help. 7 Can Help investigator Kristi Andersen put SlimShots to the test. The product is one of the newest appetite suppressants on the market. The flavored drinks claim to control hunger for up to eight hours.KETV contacted the Good Housekeeping Institute to see if SlimShots can live up to the hype.
"SlimShots is an oat oil/palm oil emulsion and the manufacturer said that if you take one to two of them a day, you will eat up to 30 percent less later in the day. There are about 20 calories in a shot. It's a creamy sort of vanilla flavored drink,” Good Housekeeping Institute tester Samantha Cassetty said. However, Good Housekeeping said that at $40 for a 30-shot supply, a consumers wallet could get thinner before they do."A short-term clinical study found that some people ate up to 30 percent less within four to eight hours compared to when they didn't take the SlimShots, but these are only short-term studies and they don't show that people actually lost weight, they only show that they ate less,” Cassetty said. “Also, if you eat for emotional or other reasons, this product likely won't help. If you are serious about losing weight, you can take this product in tandem with a diet and exercise program."The SlimShots manufacturer suggests that people consult a physician before taking their appetite controller.
