Police: Deaths are Suspicious

Lancaster County Residents On Edge After Killings, Theft

POSTED: 5:10 pm CDT August 10, 2008
UPDATED: 8:34 am CDT August 11, 2008

Lancaster County deputies are investigating two suspicious deaths and the theft of two vehicles tonight.

Investigators said Sunday afternoon the victims were found dead in their homes. The Lancaster County Sheriff warned the public that a man investigators want to talk with is still on the loose.

Sheriff Terry Wagner held an impromptu news conference around 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon after what he called a string of disturbing incidents Sunday morning in the Lincoln area.

Wagner said just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday, a man armed with a shotgun entered a home in northeast Lincoln, demanded the keys from a person in the home and left with the person's Jeep Cherokee.

Deputies located the Cherokee still running an hour later near 40th and Agnew Road, about 12 miles north from where it was stolen. Investigators believe the suspect switched the Jeep with a blue and silver Toyota Camry.

Just after noon, investigators found two people dead in a home near 98th & Raymond. The deaths are suspicious in nature.

Authorities do not know if the car thefts are connected to the deaths but they are asking the public to be careful.

"We want to caution people that if they see this stolen Camry, especially if it's occupied, not to approach this vehicle, not to make contact with it," said Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner. "We are urging them to call 911 or our nonemergency number, 441-6000, and provide any information they can about the whereabouts of this vehicle."

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30's, 6 feet tall with a slim build. He was last seen wearing khaki shorts and a gray hooded sweatshirt, armed with a shotgun or rifle.

The stolen Camry is a 2005 model, blue and silver, with a license plate PCM719

Anyone with information is urged to call the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department or 911.

Investigators have not released the identities of the people found dead.

Police are going door to door to check the welfare of people in the northeast part of the county while also looking for the Camry.
