Christian Star's Tragedy Will Change Plans For Fremont Celebration

OMAHA, Neb. -- A tragedy in Nashville has put a damper on Fremont's annual celebration.Tennessee authorities said on Wednesday that the 5-year-old daughter of contemporary Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman was struck and killed by a sport-utility vehicle driven by her brother.Tennessee Highway Patrol spokeswoman Laura McPherson said the girl, Maria, was hit in a driveway at the family residence Wednesday afternoon south of Nashville. McPherson said the Toyota Land Cruiser was driven by the girl's teenage brother and appears to be an accident.
McPherson said that several members of the Chapman family witnessed the accident. Chapman is originally from Paducah, Ky.Chapman was scheduled to perform at the John C. Fremont Days in July, but the concert has been indefinitely postponed.Tickets were to have gone on sale Thursday.
