OMAHA, Neb. -- The man suspected of biting an Iowa trooper in February and jumping 20 feet off a bridge to get away was in jail Thursday night. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department arrested Jesse James Baker after he crashed through a fence and sped away from a deputy at a nearby convenience store.Baker appeared to be injured after his arrest near 151st and Blondo Wednesday night. He had a black eye and numerous cuts on his face from the crash.
Authorities had received a call about a suspicious person. At about 7 p.m., Deputy Sara Austin was ordered to break off the chase because it was endangering children in the neighborhood.Austin said, “They knew I was gone, but he wanted to hide. He didn't want to be found so through his paranoia he drove through the fence, just to hide assuming he wouldn't be found.”Deputies caught Baker and took him to the hospital for a cut on the back of his head when Austin said he made a run for it."When they attempted to put him in the vehicle, he fled handcuffs and all," said Austin. She said when Baker tried to get away from deputies, he fell head-first on the concrete. Baker has visible injuries to his eye and face.
