OMAHA, Neb. -- A 19-year-old woman facing a felony motor vehicle homicide charge was a no-show in court on Tuesday morning.Police said Analilia Sandoval-Avila lost control of her sedan and hit a concrete wall near the Interstate 80-Interstate 480 split. Officers said she put the car in reverse, and that's when the driver of a Honda CRV ran into her passenger's side.Kylie Rosas, 29, was in the passenger seat in the sedan. She was critically hurt and died at a hospital.
Four people in the Honda were treated and released.Sandoval-Avila's bond was originally set at $100,000, but at her initial appearance on Dec. 31, it was lowered to $5,000. She posted $500 and was released.According to Assistant Douglas County Attorney Matt Kuhse, when Sandoval-Avila was arrested, she was carrying identification cards from several different states. Kuhse said he believes she was in the country illegally.Kuhse also said that Sandoval-Avila tried leaving the hospital when she was being treated.Nancy Benedict, Rosas' mother, was in court on Tuesday and was upset that the defendant wasn't there."Put her bond high enough so that at least she wouldn't have gotten out so rapidly," Benedict said. "I'm sure Ana didn't take out to kill Kylie. That wasn't her initiative when they got in to that car, but I still think she should -- she should pay for it, at least, by coming forward and tell the truth."Sandoval-Avila's $500 bond was forfeited by her failure to appear on Tuesday, and the $100,000 bond was reinstated by a judge.Attorneys, judges said they don't rememberand court files don't show why the bond was reduced, according to KETV NewsWatch 7 research on Tuesday.
