OMAHA, Neb. -- Union Pacific railroad spokesman Mark Davis said 22 cars derailed in downtown Schuyler on Monday morning. It happened at 7:15 a.m. when 22 cars of a 125-car train hauling coal from Wyoming to Chicago went off the tracks. Some streets were blocked off in Schuyler and will remain so until heavy equipment arrives in the northeast Nebraska city to remove the railcars. Davis said he expects that work to last into the evening.
UP will have to replace about 160 feet of track on one line and 600 feet on another, Davis said. The cause is still under investigation. No one was injured.
