A crash in western Douglas County has killed one person and injured two others.

The crash happened around 2:40 p.m. Monday north of Waterloo near the intersection of Highway 275 and 245th Street.

Investigators said the driver of a Mercury Cougar, Joshua Zazueta, 25, lost control, crossed the center line and collided nearly head-on with a Honda.

Investigators said the driver of the Honda, John W. Peterson, 76, of Valley, died. A passenger in Peterson's car, his grandson, John W. Peterson, 15, was injured and taken by ambulance to a hospital. There was no report on the grandson's condition.

Investigators said Zazueta was taken to a hospital by medical helicopter in critical condition. The hospital would not release information about his condition.

Highway 275 was closed several hours while the crash was investigated.
